Silent Hill: Townfall Night 1 — I Was Scared Before Simon Even Moved

By Mz. Whitsdom | Streamed live Thursday, September 24 on Twitch

Okay y’all. Thursday night I finally did it — I booted up Silent Hill: Townfall for the very first time, live on Twitch, completely blind. Never played a Silent Hill game in my life. I’ve seen the movies, but everybody and their mama told me the games are a whole different animal. They were right.

Why Townfall? Real simple: the lead character is a brother. Simon Ordell — Black man, beanie, red vest, carrying a little portable TV through a foggy Scottish town in 1996. I saw that and said oh, I have to play this. Representation matters, even in horror. Especially in horror, because usually we don’t make it past the opening credits. 😂

Here’s how night one went.

“We’re gonna be scared together”

That’s what I told chat at the top of the stream, and I meant it. Simon gets a phone call begging him to come back to St. Amelia and “put some things to rest.” Classic horror mistake. We love him anyway.

Eight minutes in, I had done nothing but walk through fog and I was already DONE: “I ain’t shit out here. I need a weapon immediately. I’m already scared.” The fog is THICK, y’all. You can’t see ten feet. “Walking around this corner, somebody grab me, I’m cutting my screen off.”

I spent the whole night talking to Simon like he could hear me: “You ready to throw hands? All I got is my hands and feet. We back to fight some ghosts.” No weapon. No backup. Just vibes and anxiety.

The payphone said “save yourself”

Found a random phone ringing in the street and answered it like a fool. Dialed 999 for emergency services. They picked up and basically told me the coast line is down — save yourself. SAVE MYSELF. Okay! Noted!!

Blockbuster break

St. Amelia is giving 1996 Scotland and I was here for the vibes, just not the dying part. Found the video rental store and had a whole nostalgic moment — “take me back to Blockbuster, remember Blockbuster?” The Shore Chip Shop got a flat “I don’t even like the name of that.” The town history lesson (shoutout to the Amelia fish ball) was cute. The being-alone-in-the-fog part was not.

The back door saga

Y’all, I lost a solid chunk of the night to ONE objective: “bring deliveries to the back door.” There WAS no back door. I walked in circles. I doubled back. I finally broke down and asked: “Chat if you know what to do, help me out, because I don’t see a back door.” I was this close to kicking the door in. We do what we must.

The Haldane Hotel

This is where the night got REAL. I heard a woman crying and followed the sound like every horror protagonist who ever died first. “I hear somebody crying, bro… she’s probably laughing like ‘I see this bitch but she don’t see me.'”

That’s when I found the Haldane Hotel. And the game being set in 1996 sent me straight down memory lane — “think I was in middle school.” The room service menu wrote its own joke: “you get a little Scottish breakfast.”

At one point I had to stop and clarify for everybody: “Not P-Valley. This is NOT P-Valley.” 😭

The crying woman had me talking the MOST trash while being the MOST scared. And I said the truest thing I’ve ever said on stream: “Yeah, I’m scared. I’m talking shit, but I’m scared.” That’s the whole channel in one sentence. Put it on a shirt.

The puzzle and the riddle

Had to crack a date code and landed on October 1996 — went with October because that’s my birth month. Gamer intuition. Then I found a key with the creepiest little note attached:

“A lot can happen in five days, but not in this room. Nothing is changing. It’s not getting better and it’s not getting worse. We just wait together, both in silence, not daring to look outside.”

Baby… is that a riddle? Because I don’t like it.

Where I left off

Got the Room 204 key. Stepped up to an elevator — “oh, bitch, how convenient” — and right at the end of the night, something was LOOKING at me. “Oh shit. He’s looking at me.”

And that’s where night one ended. 😱

I’ll be back for night two soon — the intro’s done, and the real nightmare is about to start. St. Amelia is only going to get louder. If you missed the first night, the VOD is up on my Twitch — come get scared with me. We’re gonna be scared together. 📺😈
