MomTok is back, and baby, it is not okay. All five episodes of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 5 dropped on Hulu Thursday, September 10, and the season wastes absolutely no time. Before the credits could even cool, the trailer had already teed up a Taylor-versus-Dakota showdown, a Whitney-versus-Jen standoff, and one chilling line from Jessi: “It feels like there are no friendships left in MomTok.”
That’s right — five episodes. That’s half the show’s usual order and the shortest season in the show’s two-year run. And if you’ve been following the off-camera chaos since spring, you already know why this season looks and feels different.
Taylor’s Bachelorette Got Shelved — and the Fallout Is the Show
Season 4 ended with Taylor Frankie Paul, 32 and a mom of three, jetting off to film her season as The Bachelorette. It never aired. The network pulled the season amid an open domestic assault investigation involving Taylor and her ex, Dakota Mortensen — and Season 5 is essentially the fallout, stretched across five episodes.
In the trailer, Dakota is seen showing off a tattoo of Taylor’s initials on his lip. On a FaceTime call, Taylor asks him point-blank: “Why did you get my initials tattooed on your lips? It’s giving obsessed.” His answer? “I am obsessed.”
Folks, we cannot make this stuff up. The rest of the cast can’t either. In a confessional, Mayci Neeley says, “There’s so much stuff the public doesn’t know.” And Miranda Hope, visibly distressed, asks the group about Taylor: “How did she get here?”
Meanwhile, Miranda’s own love life is unraveling on camera — she tells ex Mason McWhorter, “I’m not gonna be disrespected.” That is a whole lot of plot for five episodes, and that’s exactly the point.
Whitney Is Broadway-Bound — and MomTok-Bound No More

Whitney Leavitt spends this season split between two worlds: New York City, where she’s making her Broadway debut in Chicago, and Utah, where tensions with her castmates are waiting to pounce the second she lands. The trailer shows the other women visiting her in New York, and it’s tense from the first frame.
The Whitney-Jen Affleck rift is one of the season’s central threads. In one teaser, Jen asks Whitney if she feels bad about anything. Whitney’s reply: “No, I don’t.” Not exactly the foundation of a friendship repair arc.
And here’s the gut punch for fans: this is Whitney’s final season. She confirmed her departure in an Instagram video back in May. Whether the season gives her a proper sendoff or a messy exit remains to be seen — but if these five episodes are her goodbye, the girls are not sending her off quietly.
Why Five Episodes? Ask the Filming Pause
The shortened season isn’t a creative choice — it’s a production reality. Reports say filming paused in March after the Taylor controversy exploded, and when cameras picked back up in May, the cast reportedly filmed confessionals only — no new group scenes, no trips, no housewarmings.
That’s a first of sorts for a show built on group chaos, and you can feel it in the season’s claustrophobic energy: these women are reliving their mess in interview chairs instead of working it out face to face. Hulu confirmed the five-episode count, and honestly? It might be the only way this season could work.
In a move that’s rare in reality television, all eight cast members — Taylor, Jen, Jessi Draper, Layla Taylor, Mayci, Mikayla Matthews, Miranda, and Whitney — also serve as executive producers on the series. They’ve got skin in the game, which makes the on-screen cracks hit harder.
Is This the End of MomTok?
Not exactly — but the group chat is definitely getting restructured. Hulu has already renewed the show for seasons 6 and 7, and the network announced a spinoff, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County, starring — wait for it — Jen Affleck. Fans are already doing the math: if Jen’s got her own show, is her time with the Utah crew also done?
Jessi’s divorce announcement (made public the same day Taylor’s Bachelorette premiere was called off), Mikayla’s “boiling point” warning about low blows and character attacks, Jessi’s bleak “no friendships left” verdict — it all points to a sisterhood at a breaking point.
Here’s what we know for sure: the season is streaming now. Five episodes. Zero filler. And by the final scene, #MomTok has to decide what — and who — it’s willing to sacrifice. Grab your soda pop, because Utah’s messiest moms just made their loudest season yet.
