10 Free Harvard Online Courses to Level Up Your Resume

Updated September 11, 2026. You do not have to enroll in a degree program to start learning something useful. Harvard lists online courses with free learning or audit options, and the ten below offer places to explore technology, business, research, and community issues.

This is a curated selection from Harvard’s official free-course catalog, not an announcement that Harvard just launched ten new courses. Availability and enrollment terms can change.

What “free” means before you enroll

Free learning access does not necessarily include a verified certificate, graded work, unlimited access, or academic credit. Harvard’s CS50 and Statistics and R listings, for example, distinguish free auditing from a paid verified certificate. Check the official listing and the enrollment platform before selecting a payment option.

You do not need to buy a certificate simply to explore a subject. Decide what you need first: skills, a work sample, or a credential required for a particular purpose.

Ten courses to explore

1. CS50: Introduction to Computer Science

Start here if you want to explore programming and build a foundation before choosing a specialty. Expect hands-on practice, not just videos.

Make the learning count

My suggestion: start with one course that fits a real goal. Set aside a regular study window and keep a short record of what you can do afterward. If you learn a programming skill, build a small project. If you study argument or business, write an example showing how you applied an idea.

On your resume, describe the course accurately. Auditing a course is not the same as earning a Harvard degree or a verified certificate. Name the skill and the work you completed rather than relying on the university name alone.

How to get started

  1. Open the official course link above.
  2. Read the prerequisites, workload, access limits, and certificate terms.
  3. Follow Harvard’s enrollment link and choose the free option where offered.
  4. Recheck the current terms before entering payment details.

Correction, September 11, 2026: An earlier version incorrectly included Yale’s The Science of Well-Being in a Harvard list and described all options too broadly as completely free. We replaced the list with verified Harvard catalog entries, added official links, and clarified the difference between learning access and paid credentials.
