  • Unalived Mystery: Man found hanging and on fire in Houston

A tragic and disturbing discovery was made under a Houston overpass last Thursday leaving investigators with more questions than answers and a community in shock.

    A Grim Discovery

The incident occurred near the 5000 block of Kirkpatrick Boulevard, underneath the 610 East Loop. Around 10 p.m. on Wednesday night (10/23/2025), Union Pacific employees initially reported what they believed was a brush fire in the area. Houston Fire Department crews quickly responded to put out the flames.

However, the situation was far more horrific than a simple brush fire. Upon extinguishing the blaze, officials made a chilling discovery. It was not just debris burning—it was a man’s body, partially set on fire and dangling from a rope underneath the freeway.

    An Unexplained Death

The man, described as being in his 40s or 50s, did not survive. The scene was so complex that officials say they only realized it was a human body after the fire was put out.

A lieutenant at the scene described the area as being near a homeless encampment, but investigators are still unsure where the man was initially set on fire. The presence of both the rope and the fire makes the circumstances unclear.

Because of the suspicious nature of the scene, police are not treating this as a suicide. “He’s not just hanging. It’s like there’s also the fire,” the lieutenant explained. The exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy report, which is pending.

A Plea for Information from the Public

Authorities have stated that there were no witnesses at the scene when they first responded. This means they are relying heavily on the public for any information that could help piece together what happened.

Houston Police Department homicide detectives are now leading the investigation. They are working to identify the victim and understand the sequence of events that led to this terrible tragedy.

    How You Can Help

If you have any information about this incident, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, you are urged to come forward. Please contact the Houston Police Homicide Division directly.

You can also provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers. If your tip leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.

  • Beneath the Waterline: The Houston Bayou Deaths

Houston’s bayous are the lifeblood of the city, winding through neighborhoods and downtown alike. But recently, these waterways have become the center of a grim and troubling mystery. Since the beginning of 2025, a series of bodies have been discovered in the Buffalo Bayou and other connected waterways. Are these independent tragedies — or is there something deeper, something more sinister, at work?

Officials currently say there is no evidence of a serial killer or common perpetrator. But the fact remains: many questions remain unanswered. Here’s a breakdown of what was found, plus the mysteries and investigative leads that need follow-up.

This article is not just a list of names. It’s an investigative deep dive. We’re going to look at the victims, the timeline, and the evidence to piece together what we know. Our goal is to keep the spotlight on these cases and help, in any way we can, towards finding the truth.

    The Victims: Remembering the Names

Behind every headline is a person. To understand the mystery, we must first honor and remember those who were lost. These are the individuals whose lives were tragically cut short, as confirmed by Houston authorities and local reports.

Note: Several victims remain unidentified in the public record; some names withheld.

The red flags & why this is being treated like a mystery

Why is the public alarm high — and why does it merit an investigative tone? Consider these points:

    • A surge of recoveries: For example, five bodies found in approximately one week across different bayous.
    • Some victims are young (teenage, 20s) like Jade McKissic, which is unusual in typical water-drowning statistics.
    • Several cases remain pending — meaning cause of death, manner of death are still under investigation. That leaves a wide field for speculation.
    • The possibility of vulnerability: some victims may be homeless, intoxicated, or mentally ill, which raises the risk of unnoticed foul play or exploitation.
    • Large watersheds and many access points mean these bayous are complex zones to monitor and investigate thoroughly.

    Investigative questions worth probing

Here are the key questions — each of which could help determine if there is a pattern (or dismiss the pattern) and lead toward a solution.

    1. Victim profiles: Do the victims share common traits (age range, gender, race, housing status, recent activity) that could suggest a “type” of target?
    2. Access mode and timeline: How and when did each victim enter the water (voluntary vs accidental vs forced)? What was the time between death and discovery?
    3. Waterway locations: Are the deaths clustered in specific bayous or access points? Are certain stretches more dangerous (e.g., after storms, less lighting, near homeless encampments)?
    4. Toxicology and medical conditions: How many victims had drugs/alcohol, underlying health issues, or were in mental-health crisis? E.g., Douglas Swearingen’s meth toxicity.
    5. Signs of foul play: Any trauma, binding, evidence of assault that’s inconsistent with accidental drowning? Several cases list blunt force trauma (e.g., Rodolfo Salas Sosa).
    6. Patterns over time: Is there an uptick (e.g., more in September) compared to previous years? Is it driven by seasonal/weather conditions (storms raising currents/debris)?
    7. Investigative resources: Are police/dive teams able to recover bodies quickly? Are autopsies/timelines consistent? Are there any leads being pursued for suspects, locations, clustering?
    8. Community context: What is the role of homelessness, substance abuse, urban infrastructure in these deaths? For instance: homeless individuals living near bayous, and if their deaths go unreported until bodies are found in water.

The “murder-mystery” angle: what we should follow up

Since some cases remain unresolved, here are investigative steps (as if we’re treating this like a cold-case or conspiracy investigation) that could help unearth deeper truths:

    • Obtain autopsy reports for each of the pending cases: What was the manner of death? Are there signs of assault? Were drugs involved?
    • Map each discovery location and timeline: Plot on a map the date, time, bayou/segment, victim identity, cause of death once known. Look for clusters (geographic or temporal).
    • Cross-reference with missing-persons reports: Some bodies may match recent missing persons; checking databases may help link unknown victims.
    • Interview first responders & dive teams: Ask: how quickly were bodies recovered? What condition were they in? What obstacles to investigation?
    • Review environmental data: Rainfall, storm events, water-flow rates, access points, lighting, camera coverage — were certain conditions present before clusters of deaths?
    • Check social-media / local community reports: Sometimes local witnesses (kayakers, homeless-outreach workers) may notice suspicious behaviour near the bayous (dumping, fights, etc.)
    • Assess forensic backlog: With only six of 22 causes determined, is there a delay in toxicology/forensic processing that could hamper pattern-recognition?
    • Evaluate resource allocation: Are agencies dedicating enough to investigate potential foul play rather than assuming accident/homeless death?

    Why solving this matters

    • Public safety: If these are accidents, then improved infrastructure and public education may prevent deaths. If there is foul play, people’s lives are at risk.
    • Transparency & trust: The public demands answers; unexplained deaths breed speculation and fear, which can erode trust in law enforcement.
    • Equity & vulnerable populations: Some victims may be homeless or socially isolated; ensuring they receive the same investigative attention is a matter of social justice.
    • Urban‐ecosystem responsibility: Bayous are part of Houston’s identity and recreation system. Making them safe and ensuring tragedies don’t mount is a civic imperative.
    • Avoiding missed patterns: If investigators assume “just another drowning,” they may miss a connective tissue that could lead to prevention or accountability.

    Final thoughts

The rising number of bodies found in Houston’s bayous is deeply troubling. Even if no murderer is behind these deaths, the pattern signals urgent issues around water safety, vulnerable populations, infrastructure, and investigation capacity.

To truly “solve” this mystery — or at least to ensure each individual death is properly accounted for — the city must treat every case with rigor, release as much data as possible, and mobilize prevention efforts immediately.

The names above are more than entries on a list — each is a life lost in our city’s waterways. While some may have died by accident, others may still hold clues waiting to be uncovered. The bayous don’t forget. Neither should we.

  • Unalived Mysteries: Kada Scott

Kada Scott was a 23-year-old Black woman from Philadelphia who carried both hope and promise. She recently graduated from college. Her family noted she was a Penn State alum. She had begun work at the assisted-living facility The Terrace at Chestnut Hill. It is located in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia.

In addition to her new job, she had aspirations. Before her disappearance, she was reportedly preparing to take part in the Miss Pennsylvania USA 2026 pageant. This was giving her an even stronger platform and vision for her future.

Friends and family described her as “easygoing,” “caring,” someone who didn’t have known enemies. Her father, Kevin Scott, said that the news of her being harassed came as a surprise.

For a mother writing this, it is heartbreaking to think of someone so young disappearing like this. They were full of light and possibilities. Their absence from our community is deeply felt.

    The Disappearance & Investigation Timeline

Here is the timeline of what happened:

    • Saturday, October 4, 2025: Kada leaves home around ~9:45 p.m. from the 8300 block of Rodney Street in East Mount Airy, Philadelphia, to start her overnight shift at The Terrace at Chestnut Hill.
    • After she arrives at work, her car is parked at the facility’s lot but instead of completing her shift, she disappears. Her phone and social-media go silent.
    • In the days before her disappearance, she told friends she had been receiving harassing phone calls. Investigators say there was no activity on her cell phone or social media after the disappearance.
    • October 10: Searchers and police search the nearby Awbury Arboretum and surrounding wooded areas but find no major breakthrough.
    • Tuesday, October 14: Keon King, age 21, surrenders to police. Law enforcement identify him as the last person known to have been in contact with Kada.
    • Wednesday, October 15: Charges announced: King is charged with kidnapping, stalking, and other offenses in connection with Kada’s disappearance. Investigators release evidence including a vehicle and personal items found near a search site.
    • Saturday, October 18: Police respond to an anonymous tip. They locate female human remains in a shallow grave behind the former Ada H. Lewis Middle School. This is in the East Germantown neighborhood (near the Awbury Arboretum search area). Investigators say the remains appear to be those of a female. They are sending them to the Medical Examiner for identification.
    • October 19: Public confirmation has been announced. Human remains have been found in the search for Kada Scott in the same wooded area. Authorities have not yet positively identified them as hers. However, all signs point in that direction. The family is being consulted.

    The Suspect & Legal Updates

    Keon King, 21
    • Keon King, 21, is the key suspect. Investigators believe he was the last person known to be in contact with Kada before her disappearance.
    • King also had a previously similar case earlier in 2025: authorities say he allegedly kidnapped and assaulted another woman, but that case was dropped after the victim failed to appear in court. Those charges are now being refiled.
    • The vehicle of interest is a gold 1999 Toyota Camry (linked to King). Investigators believe Kada may have been in the vehicle.
    • Bail for King in the current case is set at $2.5 million.
    • Officials, including Larry Krasner, the Philadelphia District Attorney, publicly acknowledged systemic issues. Problems like bail and prior case handling may have allowed dangerous individuals to remain free. This oversight could pose a risk.

What Has Ended — and What Remains Unclear

What is certain now: human remains have been found in connection with the investigation for Kada Scott. The location and evidence strongly point to her disappearance resulting in tragedy.

    What remains unclear:

    • Formal positive identification of the remains is pending. Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed that the remains belong to Kada.
    • The exact motive still needs to be determined. The full timeline of events between her last seen moment and disappearance also needs to be established. It is not yet clear whether any others were involved.
    • The question of additional victims: authorities are encouraging anyone who may have encountered King to come forward.

Why This Matters — Especially for Black Women and Mothers

As a Black woman—and as a mother—I cannot help but reflect on what this loss means. Kada was young, full of plans. Her story echoes too many of ours: coming home from work, being harassed, feeling vulnerable, then vanishing.

Black women too often occupy the space of “unseen” in investigations and media. The community must stay vigilant and persistent. Kada’s case shows how even when a well-documented disappearance occurs, obstacles remain—from bail issues to dropped charges in prior cases. The system must hold up our daughters, sisters, mothers.

Her family has been through unimaginable grief, hope fading and reforming each day. They are still pleading for information. The community search, flyers, social support—they remind us that collective watchfulness is essential.

    Closing Thoughts

It hurts to admit that for a moment the search ended in the discovery of remains. It breaks my heart that a young Black woman with promise may become another statistic. But the ending isn’t just about loss—it’s also about accountability. The suspect is in custody; the spotlight is on systemic failings; the family will seek justice.

We cannot let Kada’s name fade. We must carry it—not just for her sake, but for all our daughters; those that are still here, missing, and passed on. We must demand that their stories matter, their safety matters, our community matters.

Will you help keep that promise?

  • Say Her Name: Renia Lewis, Vallejo, CA

We must Say Her Name: Reneia Lewis.

Renia Lewis was a young, vibrant woman whose life was tragically cut short. Her story is a heartbreaking reminder of the violence against women that often goes unnoticed. Renia, only 28, was described by her family as vibrant and family-oriented. She loved cooking and being with her loved ones. She lived in Berkeley but often visited Vallejo, California, to see her friends and relatives. She deserves to be remembered for the beautiful person she was, not just for the shocking circumstances of her death.

Renia was last seen on a Friday night, September 26, 2025. When her mother, Terry Lewis, didn’t hear from her by Sunday, the family grew deeply worried. They used the Life 360 app and tracked her last known location to 14th Street in Vallejo. The family did not wait; they launched their own search. In a deeply unsettling discovery, her phone was found on a roof, immediately setting off alarm bells for foul play.

Police initially searched a home on 14th Street after the missing person report. However, their initial cursory check found no signs of Renia. Days later, detectives returned to the house after obtaining a search warrant based on new information. Neighbors described the house as a messy, cluttered “hoarder home.” This is when they made the chilling discovery. Renia’s remains were in a concealed entry in the attic. They were hidden behind a secret wall. Her cousin, Latoya Lewis, stated, “You would miss it. My baby girl was hidden behind a wall. It was a secret wall they placed her behind.”

Investigators believe that after bringing Lewis to the residence on Friday, Shaw killed her and dismembered her body before concealing the remains behind the hidden wall in the attic. The Solano County District Attorney’s Office is now handling the case, and Shaw is being held in Solano County Jail awaiting further proceedings.

On the same day her body was found, police arrested 41-year-old Douglas Irwin Shaw on suspicion of murder. He was apprehended at his workplace, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Authorities later reported that Shaw confessed to killing Renia with a knife. The case raised further concerns when it was revealed that an ex-girlfriend of Shaw’s had previously needed a restraining order against him in 2023.

The loss has devastated Renia’s loved ones. Her mother collapsed when she received the news, sharing the pain of a prayer that went unanswered. Police Chief Jason Ta called her death a “heartbreaking senseless act of violence that has no place in our community”

  • Update on Trey Reed’s Death in Mississippi

The case of De’Martravion “Trey” Reed, has continued to draw attention across Mississippi and the nation. The 21-year-old student was found hanging from a tree on the Delta State University campus on September 15, 2025. His death has raised serious questions, and both state officials and the family are taking steps to find answers.

    Autopsy Completed

The Mississippi state medical examiner recently released an autopsy report ruling Trey’s death a suicide. According to the findings, there were no broken bones, bruises, or other signs of physical assault. Local investigators also supported this conclusion, stating that there was no evidence of foul play in the case.

    Family Seeks Independent Review

Despite the state’s findings, Trey’s family has made it clear that they are not satisfied with the official explanation. They have hired civil rights attorney Ben Crump to lead an independent investigation into the death. The family has also requested a second autopsy, saying that too many questions remain unanswered.

Former NFL player and activist Colin Kaepernick is stepping in to help by funding the independent examination through his Know Your Rights Camp Autopsy Initiative. This support will give the family another chance to review the evidence with outside experts.

Questions About How the Case Was Handled

Family members have also expressed frustration with how they were first informed about Trey’s death. They said they were originally told that he had been found in his dorm room, but later learned he was discovered hanging outside near the school’s pickleball courts. That confusion has fueled even more suspicion about how information is being shared with them.

Officials at Delta State have said that surveillance video related to the case exists and has been reviewed by investigators. The family is demanding access to this video, believing it could be critical to understanding what really happened.

    Calls for a Federal Investigation

The case has also gained political attention. U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson has called on the FBI and the Department of Justice to open a federal investigation into Trey’s death. Civil rights groups, including the NAACP, have also raised concerns, pointing to Mississippi’s long history of racial violence and the need for complete transparency.

    What Happens Next

While the state has officially ruled Trey’s death a suicide, the family and their legal team are pressing forward with their independent review. The results of the outside autopsy are expected to provide more clarity in the coming weeks. In the meantime, community members, activists, and students at Delta State are continuing to demand answers.

The story of Trey Wright’s death is still developing. For now, his family says they will not stop fighting until they know the full truth about what happened to him.

  • Jakobe Lindsay, Mississippi Murder Mystery

On September 17, 2024, 18-year-old Jakobe Jamar Lindsey was found dead hanging in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. His death has sparked public outcry and calls for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his tragic passing. It has been a year. I haven’t found updates. It’s important to reignite this story. Two men were recently found hanging in Mississippi. This happened in Cleveland and Vicksburg on September 15, 2025.

    🕊️ Remembering Jakobe Jamar Lindsey

Jakobe was known for his warm personality and infectious smile. Born on February 18, 2006, he was raised in foster care after his biological family faced challenges. Jakobe’s family tried hard to gain custody. However, he was placed with foster parents. According to his grandparents, these parents were unfit. They had connections within the legal system, which influenced the custody decision.

    ⚖️ Family’s Call for Justice

Jakobe’s grandparents, Anthony and Vanessa Bouie, have long sought custody of their grandson, believing he would be safer and better cared for with them. They allege that the legal system failed Jakobe, citing bias in favor of his foster parents, who were friends with some officials involved in the custody decision.

The Bouies are particularly disturbed by the circumstances of Jakobe’s death. He was found hanging with his arms crossed and knees bent, a position that contradicts the typical presentation of a suicide by hanging. They believe this was not a suicide and are urging news outlets to bring attention to Jakobe’s case to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.

The Justice for Jakobe Lindsey campaign has gained momentum, with the Bouies appealing to the media and the public to help shine a light on this case and prevent further injustices. They are available for interviews and can provide additional information and evidence to support their claims.

Currently, there are no official updates from law enforcement or local journalism to support the lynching claim. Still, the family’s request for a thorough investigation and public attention is vital for getting justice for Jakobe.

  • A Community in Fear: The Devil’s Den Case

A popular hiking spot, a family enjoying a day out, and a horrific crime that has shaken a community to its core. This is the story of the Devil’s Den State Park murders.

A married couple, Clinton and Cristen Brink, were brutally murdered while hiking with their two young daughters in Devil’s Den State Park in Arkansas. The suspect, Andrew James McGann, a 28-year-old teacher, was arrested five days later in a barbershop. This case has left the community with many questions, not only about the motive for this seemingly random act of violence but also about the suspect’s past.

    The Brinks (left), McGann (right)

The Victims: A Family New to Arkansas

Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41, had recently moved to Prairie Grove, Arkansas, from South Dakota. They were excited to start a new life with their two daughters, aged 7 and 9. Clinton was about to start a new job as a milk delivery driver, and Cristen was a licensed nurse. They were a loving family, and their tragic deaths have left a void in the lives of their loved ones. The family has stated that the couple died as “heroes protecting their little girls.”

The Crime: A Brutal Attack in a Serene Setting

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, the Brink family was hiking on a trail in Devil’s Den State Park. In a horrific turn of events, they were attacked by a man with a knife. It is believed that Clinton was attacked first. Cristen, in a final act of maternal love, ushered her daughters to safety before returning to help her husband, where she was also fatally stabbed. The two young girls, though physically unharmed, were left to witness an unspeakable tragedy. They managed to alert another hiker, which set the investigation in motion.

The Suspect: A Teacher with a Troubling Past

Andrew James McGann, the man accused of this heinous crime, was a teacher. He had recently been hired by the Springdale Public School district in Arkansas and was due to start his new job in a week. However, this was not his first teaching position. He had previously worked in school districts in Texas and Oklahoma.

Concerns about McGann’s behavior had been raised in the past. At Donald Elementary School in Flower Mound, Texas, he was placed on administrative leave in the spring of 2023 due to “concerns related to classroom management, professional judgment, and student favoritism.” Parents had complained about his “grooming behavior” towards young female students, alleging that he would give them special treatment, including gifts and physical touch. Despite these complaints, an internal investigation by the Lewisville Independent School District “found no evidence of inappropriate behavior with students,” and McGann resigned in May 2023. He then went on to teach in Oklahoma before moving to Arkansas.

The Arrest: A Manhunt Ends in a Barbershop

After a five-day manhunt, which included a flood of tips from the public, McGann was arrested on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. He was found at a barbershop in Springdale, Arkansas, about 30 miles north of Devil’s Den. Surveillance footage from the barbershop captured the moment of his arrest. Police have stated that McGann was cooperative and admitted to the murders soon after his arrest. His DNA was also matched to blood found at the crime scene.

    The Investigation and What’s Next

Andrew James McGann has been charged with two counts of capital murder and is being held without bond. He has pleaded not guilty. The prosecution has indicated that they will seek the death penalty. The motive for the attack is still under investigation, but authorities believe it was a random act of violence.

This tragic case has left a community in shock and mourning for the Brink family. It has also raised serious questions about the systems in place to vet and monitor teachers, especially those who have faced complaints in the past. As the legal process unfolds, the community, and the nation, will be watching closely, hoping for justice for Clinton and Cristen Brink and for answers that may help prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

  • Mystery on Bell Mountain: Twin Brothers’ Deaths Leave Family Demanding Answers

A chilling mystery has unfolded on Bell Mountain in Towns County, Georgia, near the North Carolina border. The bodies of Kyir and Nyir Lewis, 19-year-old twin brothers, were found at the summit. This occurred on Saturday morning, 90 miles from their home in Lawrenceville. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) initially called the deaths a possible murder-suicide. However, the family is refusing to accept that explanation. They are demanding answers about what truly happened to the inseparable brothers.

Kyrir and Nyir Lewis, twin brothers found unalived at the top of Bell Mountain in Georgia.

    Bodies Found After Missed Flight
The twins were supposed to board a 7 a.m. flight to Boston last Friday to visit friends. But when they missed their flight and stopped responding to calls, their family grew worried. Just 24 hours later, a hiker discovered their bodies at the top of Bell Mountain. It is a remote area the family insists the brothers had never visited. They had never even heard of it. Both had been shot.

“How did they end up in those mountains? They don’t hike. They’ve never been there,” said their uncle, Raheem Bronner, in an emotional interview. “We want answers. We need to know exactly what happened.”

    Family Rejects Murder-Suicide Theory
The GBI’s preliminary investigation suggested one brother may have shot the other before turning the gun on himself. But the Lewis family is adamant this couldn’t be true. Relatives describe Kyir and Nyir as deeply bonded, protective, and nonviolent. “They’re inseparable. I’ve never even seen them get into a fistfight,” Bronner said. “They come from a family of love. We don’t believe they did this to each other.”

The family questions how the twins ended up in such a remote location without their phones or belongings. “They were supposed to be on a plane to Boston,” Bronner added. “Something happened in those mountains, and we won’t stop until we get the truth.”

    Investigators Await Final Results
The GBI confirmed the twins’ autopsies are complete. However, officials are waiting for additional forensic tests. They also need evidence analysis before releasing a final ruling. A spokesperson emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, leaving room for the findings to change.

Meanwhile, the Lewis family is rallying support online, urging anyone with information to come forward. Friends and community members have expressed their doubts. They described the brothers as “kind souls.” The brothers were excited about their trip to Boston.

    A Community Seeks Closure
The GBI is working to piece together the twins’ final hours. This tragedy has left a community in shock. Bell Mountain, known for its rugged trails and sweeping views, is now at the center of a haunting mystery. For the Lewis family, the fight for answers is just beginning.

“They were weeks away from turning 20,” Bronner said. “We can’t move forward until we know what really happened.”

[This story is ongoing. Updates will be shared as more details emerge from the GBI investigation.]
