Chile, if you haven’t been on the timeline today, grab your tea and sit down because the audacity is at an all-time high in Houston. We always talk about the “eyes and ears” of our community, but honey, social media just caught one in 4K, and it is ugly.
The Video That Shook the City
A Houston Police Department officer named Ashley Gonzalez—who, by the way, just got her badge in early 2024—decided to hop on social media and let her true colors fly. Gonzalez was caught on a racist rant in a viral video. This video has gained attention for all the wrong reasons and will make your blood boil.
She wasn’t just “frustrated,” sis. She was out here casually using the N-word and talking about how much she “hates Black people.” The wildest part? She actually stated she felt “at peace” when she called a Black person a N*GGER to their face. It made her feel like she was back in the Marine Corps.
Dr. Candice Matthews is NOT Playing With Her!
But don’t think for a second the community is just sitting back and taking this. Dr. Candice Matthews is already on the front lines. Houston, you know her—she’s the Statewide TCBD Vice Chair and a powerhouse activist. She’s cracking the whip and on Threads applying BELT 2 ASS.

Dr. Matthews isn’t just asking for an apology; she’s demanding accountability. She’s been all over social media and the news. She makes it clear that this vitriol has no place in a department. This department is supposed to “protect and serve” our neighborhoods. Because of the immediate outcry and the pressure from activists like Dr. Matthews, HPD had to move fast.
Where Things Stand Now
As of right now, Ashley Gonzalez has been relieved of duty. She had to turn in her badge and her gun, and she’s basically under house arrest while they investigate.
The Houston Police Officers’ Union even had to put out a statement saying they were “extremely disturbed.” (Well, join the club!)
Why This Matters for Us
When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. We can’t have individuals with that much hate in their hearts making life-or-death decisions for our sons. They shouldn’t make such decisions for our daughters and ourselves either.
Dr. Matthews is making sure this doesn’t get swept under the rug, and we need to keep that same energy.
What do y’all think? Is being “relieved of duty” enough, or should she be gone for good? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
